Once and a while you get to thinking about what you do and how you ended up doing whatever it is that you do. As for me, I have always known I wanted to teach and coach. I have been fortunate enough to have been around some great educators and some great coaches. There is some advice that I often remind myself of why it is I do what I do and what to do when challenges present themselves to me. It is these thoughts and ideas that I put into the form of poem that I would like to share. I hope you enjoy the poem and it is my true prayer for all of you, that you truly enjoy doing what you do and to remind you we all make mistakes. What we do in the face of adversity, challenges, and life changing events is what will determine our successes and failures.
“My Coach Always Said….” By Coach Alberto Munoz
My coach always said…
Do your best, don’t sweat the rest,
The truth in this statement, this is only a test.
Because sports aren’t forever and one thing will last,
It the lessons you learned, not the games in the past.
Life will be hard, unexpected & tough, all this is true,
Remember this though, tough times don’t last, tough people do.
See all of the sweat, time, hard work, and tears
Were meant for you to learn and persevere through the years.
This can be hard always trying your best is no easy feat,
We all have our faults and will inevitably be beat.
And when you get beat and you just want to hide,
Remember your brothers and sisters are there by your side.
So on your way down, lean on family, faith, & friends
And believe anything that’s been broken, these will help mend.
Doing your best doesn’t mean always win,
It means try your hardest and try, try again.
It means no one is perfect and that we all fail.
But fail as we will, just try, try, again, and set a new sail.
Cause Don’t Sweat the Rest, means you are not always in control,
But the big man upstairs knows what’s true in your soul.
So thanks to my coach who gave this advice
It’s because of your words that I try, try, again.
It’s why we are doing our best and not sweating the rest.
It’s because the truth is, there is always a test.
